A board committee on Wednesday shot down the idea of raising tuition 3% on in-state undergraduate students, but the full board voted in favor of the administration's proposal. The board approved increases in the cost of housing and meals and on out-of-state students, too.

The UNC System is considering raising tuition costs for future in-state undergraduate students.
The move is part of the university's"North Carolina Gateway to Wake Forest University" initiative. Officials said it aims to increase access to higher education and alleviate financial burdens for local families.

William Peace University's Peace Pledge guarantees 100% tuition coverage for qualifying North Carolina students with family incomes less than $75,000, a 3.25 high school GPA and Pell Grant eligibility.
