McIntyre, who is a student at Millbrook High School, posted $100,000 bond. His appearance changed since his Wednesday arrest, getting a haircut before Thursday’s court appearance.
Supporters flanked McIntyre before, during and after Thursday’s hearing. He didn’t have anything to say when asked about his charges or anything to the families of Millbrook High School students.
McIntyre played on the Millbrook football team that reached the NCHSAA 8A state championship game in 2025. He is part of Millbrook's senior class.
No students were injured during Wednesday's incident. Millbrook High School went on lockdown Wednesday for a little more than an hour.
McIntyre is due back in court at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 19.
Weapons detections systems in NC schools
WRAL News asked the Wake County Public School System if it would consider adding metal detectors or weapons detection systems in schools.
The district provided a statement.
"Our Board of Education has taken proactive measures to support and enhance school safety by authorizing an independent security assessment of every school and administrative facility," the statement reads. "This assessment did not recommend the use of weapon detections systems, however as school safety conditions evolve, we will continue to examine the use of these systems."
On behalf of the Wake County Board of Education, the School Safety Advocacy Council completed the assessment in 2019 and issued the report in 2021.
Some people are in favor of the board conducting another assessment.
Many school systems in North Carolina use weapons detectors. It includes Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Cumberland, Edgecombe, Guilford, Harnett, Johnston, Nash, Person and Wilson counties.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools was the first district in the state to implement weapons detection systems.
In December 2021, shots were fired at West Charlotte High School in a fight over a backpack. During the 2021-22 school year, state data shows authorities found eight guns at West Charlotte High.
Earlier in that school year, Garinger High School in Charlotte went on lockdown after a shooting near campus. The suspect, later identified as a child, ran towards the school. While searching students during that lockdown, authorities found a loaded gun was found and the child was charged.
That next semester, school leaders equipped West Charlotte, Garinger and five other high schools with Evolv weapons detectors. Those schools accounted for 22 of the 31 guns found systemwide in the 21-22 school year. WRAL News went through the three years of data school violence data since then, and those same seven schools combined have only had six guns discovered.
The numbers show what many school systems have WRAL News: These devices are as much about detection as they are about being a deterrent.
