Millbrook High School in Raleigh was placed under a Code Red lockdown due to a student having a gun on campus on Wednesday.

WRAL's cameras captured Raleigh officers escorting 18-year-old Malcolm McIntyre in handcuffs to a police vehicle outside the school around 12:05 p.m. McIntyre had a loaded gun in his possession on campus, according to police.

McIntyre faces charges for carrying a gun on an educational property (felony), carrying a concealed gun (misdemeanor), resisting a public officer (misdemeanor) and disorderly conduct at school (misdemeanor). He was booked on Wednesday afternoon.

He posted his $100,000 bond Thursday morning.

McIntyre played on the Millbrook football team that reached the NCHSAA 8A state championship game in 2025. He is part of Millbrook's senior class.

After the arrest, the lockdown changed to a modified Code Yellow level. Around 12:40 p.m., the lockdown moved to Code Green.

No students were injured. School administrators learned of a student possibly having a gun on campus around 11:20 a.m.

In a statement sent to parents by principal Brian Saunders, he said school officials were alerted about the gun on campus through the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System that one of the students saw another with a gun. He said the app is “specifically designed for this purpose.”

“The student who reported the threat is to be commended for their actions to keep everyone safe. Please make sure your high schooler is aware of this resource. We have shared it with them within their classes, and there are posters throughout the school, but I wanted you all to be aware of the app, in hopes that you too would make sure your student knows about it."Saunders statement read to parents in part.

Some parents came by to pick up their children in light of the lockdown.

"When you hear something like that, you want to see your child in person to make sure they're OK," said Amy Buchan, who came to check on her daughter.

In a Code Red lockdown, the entire building is locked down. Code Yellow means there is something in the community that may pose a threat to the school, but there is no imminent threat to the school.

"It's definitely something you worry about, that you only think could happen, but won't," said Millbrook student Sebastian Heberlein. "It's definitely a scary experience."

Under state law, any student who brings a firearm on campus faces a 365-day suspension. Criminal charges are also possible.

East Garner Elementary School was also placed on lockdown on Wednesday. The school district said the two occurrences were not related.
