My happy place is outdoors. On any given weekend, you can usually find me hiking, mountain biking or backpacking somewhere in North Carolina. I'm also an avid cook, and spend most Sunday evenings working on a huge spread for the week.
I come from a small family. These days, my mom and dad are both retired down on the Gulf Coast. I try to visit when I can, but my mom will tell you it's not often enough!

During summer 2020, I was part of one of the only broadcast crews on scene as protesters swarmed the Confederate monuments on Monument Avenue in Richmond. That night of protests turned out to be an inflection point in how the former Confederate capitol remembers and commemorates its past.
That same year, I wound up outside Nashville, covering the deadly tornadoes that swept that city and nearby Cookeville. The 175 mph winds caused some of the worst tornado damage in the state's history. Those storms also highlighted how communities can step up and be their best, after the worst happens.
