Capitol Broadcasting Company Director of Technology Peter Sockett was honored Wednesday with the Wade H. Hargrove Community Leadership Award from the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters (NCAB).
The Hargrove award recognizes managers who have made significant contributions toward the communities served by their radio or television stations. Past recipients include North Carolina NOAA and the state department of emergency management.

Sockett, who has been part of the team at WRAL since 2003, counts among his accomplishments the launch of HD television in the 1990s and the implementation of the ATSC 3.0 standard, which brings the potential for smarter targeting and true interactivity to broadcast television.
Sockett is widely recognized as a television pioneer, having won a Technology Leadership award from Broadcasting and Cable in 2013 and the National Association of Broadcasters Television Engineering Achievement Award in 2022.
