Dancers from Fuquay-Varina to be featured in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

A group of dancers from a studio in Fuquay-Varina were featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in New York.

Thursday’s performance marked the third time that Studio Five Dance Company has been chosen to dance in the parade. The group was part of the Spirit of American Stars performance.

The studio sent in an audition video and was selected to be among 500 student dancers who’ll take part in the holiday tradition.

“They’ve worked really hard in class, we prepare them with technique,” owner Meghan Retseck told WRAL News. “But also that passion and performance, and just to have fun, that’s the most important thing, and that’s got to come across.”

Retseck said the dancers have been rehearsing constantly since receiving the choreography for the event in October.

Along with the parade, Retseck said the high school-aged dancers will see Broadway shows and the Rockettes and tour New York City, part of what should be an experience of a lifetime.

“I think I’m most excited to be able to just be in the environment of the parade, to be able to walk it, see all the people, be in costume,” dancer Mikaela Retseck said. “I think it’s just going to be so much fun and I can’t wait to do it.”
