5 Points Nightmare

Take a walk through this haunted yard filled with large animatronics, singing pumpkins and skeletons. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

5 Points Nightmare at 710 New Road, Raleigh, NC

“We wanted something that the kids love to come to, that just inspired fun and a little scary, but not too scary,” said Nicole Licato.

She and her fiancé transform their yard each year for the community to enjoy.

On Halloween, the couple plans to have music, full-sized candy bars and hot cider for all to enjoy. There will also be some live creatures roaming the yard, so put on your brave face.

The display is free to the public, although guests can leave donations to support local organizations that care for cats.

Oakwood Halloween

The Oakwood Halloween is a spooky staple in the Raleigh community.

The historic neighborhood is a favorite for trick-or-treaters and all the Halloween lovers. The entire neighborhood joins in on the fun with homes and yards decorated with life-sized characters and Halloween décor.

Organizers said that one day after Halloween, there will also be a community showing of Coco during their "Dia de Oakwood" from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Edward’s Battle Haunted House

Scaring for cause, that is the goal for one Raleigh family.

“We scare because we care,” Sarah Thompson said.

Her son, Edward, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2012. To lift his spirits, the family decided to transform their home into a haunted house, something he had dreamed of.

Now in school at UNC-Wilmington and in remission, his family continues to bring on the scare for the community to enjoy.

Walk up the yard at 9401 South Mere Court and you’ll see a thriller’s dream. The family’s haunted home features large animatronics, jump scares, and you may even see a clown over your shoulder.

The haunted house is free for all, but guests can leave donations to help raise money for children’s cancer research.

Holidays on Boone Street

If you’re in the Chapel Hill area, the Holidays on Boone Street is a must-see.

The home located on 358 Boone Street features vivid light displays along with a haunted yard and dynamic projection shows.

The displays are live each night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

After the Halloween scares, the family transforms their haunted displays into a Christmas wonderland. Organizers suggest following them on Facebook to keep up with the latest updates.

Wood Family Light Show

A Wake Forest family has another fantastic pop of Halloween light displays.

Located at 6600 Austin Creek Drive, the 50-minute show features dynamic light displays and music to keep the entire community engaged.

“It’s a labor of love,” said JR Wood.

Wood first started the light displays 18 years ago in the Triad. After moving to Raleigh, he said he wanted to continue bringing joy to families during the holiday season.

“What I hear from people, there’s so much negativity constantly in your daily routine. It’s just an opportunity to get out and forget all about that and just have a good time,” he continued.

The light displays run every Friday to Sunday through Halloween from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wood also said to check their social media for updates.

Deadford Manor

Lastly, if you’re up for a spooky jingle, a gang of singing skeletons can be found at Deadford Manor.

It is a Raleigh go-to for those classic Halloween tunes. The group of animatronic skeletons performs 15 to 20-minute shows featuring different spooky themes, something the whole family will enjoy.

The show is free to the public, but donations are accepted for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Because the show only happens at certain times, organizers said guests should check Facebook before coming so they don’t miss the super spooky boogie.
