An investigation is underway after Greensboro police shot a man early Thursday morning after he fired shots at officers and fled the scene. 

Officers responded to the 1200 block of Orchard Street around 12:41 a.m. for a domestic disturbance call, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

Police said a caller reported a man banging on a window of the residence attempting to break in.  

Officers located the suspect in the parking lot where he fired multiple shots at them before he fled in a vehicle, police said. 

During a brief pursuit with Greensboro police, the suspect fired more shots at officers before he returned to the same parking lot and fired additional shots. 

The suspect got out of the vehicle and continued to fire shots at officers, police said. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect. 

The suspect was transported to the hospital for his injuries. No officers were injured. 

The Greensboro Police Department’s Professional Standards Division is conducting an internal investigation. 

The officers involved were placed on administrative duty pending the investigation.
