The city of Raleigh Emergency Communications Department released 911 calls this week, providing  insight into the chaos that unfolded inside an emergency room where an officer was shot and killed.

On Thursday evening, WRAL News received eight calls made to 911 on Nov. 8.

WakeMed Garner Healthplex police officer Roger Smith was shot and killed on that day.

In one of the 911 calls, the caller tells the dispatcher a patient came in "tripping out bad."

Seconds later, six gunshots can be heard in the background.

The same caller said the patient is fighting with the officer.

It's clear this was a chaotic scene.

In each call, there is shouting and screaming in the background.

Garner police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Benji Martin, who has been in the hospital with injuries related to the struggle with Smith.

It's still not clear if Martin brought a weapon into the emergency department or if the weapon belonged to Smith.
