Randall Kerr
Sr. producer, WRAL Investigates
Professional Experience:
More than two decades covering the WRAL viewing area as a newscast producer, executive producer of the now-defunct WRAL NewsChannel and now senior producer of the WRAL Investigates unit.
Awards & Recognition:
6 time Southeast Emmy award winner for investigative reporting, weather reporting and special sports coverage. Dozens of state Associated Press awards, as well as Radio & Television News Directors of the Carolinas awards.
News Philosophy:
Pretty simple. Truth. Accountability. Compassion. Storytelling. Educating. Changing.
Birthplace or Hometown:
Born in Parkridge, Illinois, but grew up in the metro Washington, DC area
Hobbies, Interests & Community Involvement:
Former soccer player and coach for several local youth leagues. Avid runner and swimmer. Also a couple of stints on my Homeowners Association board (though not really an interest!).
Family:
Married to former WRAL Anchor/reporter Lynda Loveland. Three children who are growing up too quickly.
Likes Best About North Carolina:
The people, the pace, the weather and the ocean/mountains. After living in both the Washington, DC, area and Hollywood, CA, I have an appreciation for less-crowded roads and generally friendly people.
Most Memorable Assignments:
I love sports, so covering NCAA Final Fours always go to the top of the list. The atmosphere and excitement outweigh the constant deadlines and 18-hour work days. Next on the list is probably the national political conventions and having the ability to meet and interview so many people who’ve had an impact on the country.
