The cost of flights is on the rise again, with an average cost of over $300. This year plane tickets have increased by ten percent, making 'basic economy' tickets more tempting to some.

Some travelers don't mind forgoing a few luxuries if it means saving big on ticket costs.

Shannon Nesmith said she would rather save 70 dollars than have the comforts of regular economy. She said the worst part is not having an overhead bin to store her carry-on, so she has to bring a smaller bag.

"I think it's a good thing if you are going on a short trip and you get there very quickly," said Nesmith.

Some downsides of these tickets include: no free carry-on bags, no seat selection, last to board the plane, no mileage points, and oftentimes no ticket changes.

Basic economy can save money. But be aware of the downsides and don't show up with a big bag.

The price of the ticket is low, but if you have to pay extra for baggage, it isn't worth it.
