Before you grab that last-minute costume at a Halloween pop-up shop this year, the Better Business Bureau has three tips to help you save money.

Ask how long the store will be open. You need to specifically ask  if they will still be open after Halloween and if returns will be accepted when the spooky season is over. If they're not open, you might want to consider shopping elsewhere if you have the option.

Review the return policy before you buy. Not all places allow you to try on costumes, so you might get something home and find out it doesn't fit.  Ask if there's a website that can be used for contact or returns.  The Better Business Bureau warns if a shop can't offer concrete commitments on how they will handle any potential problems, you might want to reconsider doing business with them.

Protect your private financial information. If you're purchasing pricey items, paying with a credit card can provide additional protection if there are issues and the retailer disappears. Make sure to keep the receipt in case you need it to match up to your credit card records.
