WRAL News continuous coverage of winter weather

I felt a twinge of guilt when I turned on WRAL News this morning. My former broadcast buddies were hard at work reporting on icy troubles in the Triangle. Here I was with my cozy pajamas and a steaming cup of coffee enjoying the sparkling beauty of the day.

For decades I got up in the middle of the night in the middle of snowstorms and made my way to work at WRAL-TV. Not once did I miss my morning slot. I even drove to work during the 23-inch blizzard of January, 2000. That was pretty scary.

Now that I’m a year and a half into retirement I must admit I love the luxury of watching others report on the snow. It gives me time to take photographs and videos, enjoy some pumpkin pancakes and play with Rufus and the grandchildren.

The morning after a snowfall can be the prettiest part. The shimmering show gives me goosebumps. I never had time to savor this beauty before. Now I do and I am grateful.
