A 10-year-old boy and a 59-year-old man are okay after they fell into a partially frozen pond in their Cary neighborhood on Sunday. 

According to the Cary Police Department, the 10-year-old was exploring a neighborhood pond when he fell in. A neighbor happened to be watching through their kitchen window and saw the boy fall in.

The man ran outside to try to rescue him and then fell into the lake himself. Both were in ice and water up to about adult chest height, the department said.

Around 12:45 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the neighborhood on Caniff Lane after the man's fiancée called 911. Firefighters pulled both out by rope. 

The two were in the water for less than five minutes and are expected to be OK.

The frozen waters are a result of below-freezing temperatures and wintry conditions that moved through the Triangle in the last two weeks. 

It's crucial to remember that though ice seems solid enough to our eyes, looks can be deceiving. WRAL meteorologist Chris Michaels said that any ice less than three inches thick is not enough to put any person or thing on top of without breaking.
