Incoming undergraduate students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill could see a tuition and fee increase beginning next year, for the first time in nearly a decade.
A lawsuit filed by Chris Clemens alleges the university's board of trustees violated state law, mentioning discussions related to UNC athletics and the contract approval for Bill Belichick. The university has responded by releasing public records and a statement, asserting Clemens' claims are false.

Looking to pay for new tax cuts, Republicans in the state legislature want to free up more than $100 million a year from higher education through higher tuition and funding cuts.

NC State University is expected to bring on Kevin Howell to be its next chancellor, according to a report from 247 Sports. Howell has a long history with NC State, having previously served as a vice chancellor for external affairs, partnerships and economic development.
For the 2025-26 school year, undergraduate tuition for students not receiving aid will be $70,265, and total cost of attendance before financial aid, including tuition, fees, room and board, will be $92,042, the university announced on its website.
The head of North Carolina's public colleges issued a rebuke of the trustees at UNC-Chapel Hill and suspended some of their authority over athletics, saying their "independent and unilateral actions continue to create substantial legal risk to the University."
The move comes after the trustees criticized the firing of Mack Brown and played a role in the hiring of Bill Belichick.
