The Beech Mountain Ski Resort moved back its opening date for a second time to allow for more snowmaking.
The resort is set to open on Friday, Dec. 5.

Initially, the plan was to open the resort on Nov. 22 and then on Nov. 29.
An unlimited season pass at Beech Mountain Ski Resort costs $500 if purchased between now and Oct. 31.
Ticket prices go up to $640 for adults (ages 13-64) on Nov. 1. Season passes will cost $515 for juniors (ages 5-12), seniors (ages 65 and older), college students and military members. Children ages 4 and younger cost $5.
Season passholders can enjoy early lift access starting at 8 a.m. on Lift 5 during select days this winter. The perk begins on Friday, Dec. 5, and will be available every Saturday and Sunday.
During the holiday period, from Monday, Dec. 15, through Friday, January 2, passholders can take advantage of daily early access.
After the holiday, early access continues every Saturday and Sunday until Sunday, March 8.
Adult weekday season passes cost $425. Weekday passes for juniors, seniors, college students and military members cost $325.
Local student and faculty weekday passes cost $260, which are valid for students, faculty and staff of Lees-McRae College, Appalachian State University, East Tennessee State University and Watauga and Avery County Public Schools.

When NC ski resorts are scheduled to open
WRAL News is working to find out the opening dates for Cataloochee Ski Area, Hatley Pointe (formerly the Wolf Ridge Ski Resort), Sapphire Valley and the Sugar Mountain Resort.
Appalachian Ski Mountain: Appalachian Ski Mountain opened Saturday, Nov. 29.
The resort initially planned to open Friday, Nov. 21. The ski season at the resort runs through March 15.
The resort is offering unlimited individual season passes for $625 if purchased by Oct. 10. It costs $540 for students with a valid identification. Pricing will increase afterward.
Single-day lift tickets range between $38-$83.
Cataloochee Ski Area: Cataloochee Ski Area opened on Nov. 12 for the 2025-26 ski season.
The resort lists season pass prices on its website:
- Weekday/night: $435
- Unlimited: $775 plus another $479 for an additional family member (immediate family within the same household)
- Limited: $630. Valid any day except Saturday. Add an additional family member in the same household for another $399.
Daily slope passes range from $17 to $89.
The Cataloochee Ski Area has a new quad lift for the upcoming season.
Hatley Pointe (Formerly the Wolf Ridge Ski Resort): Hatley Pointe plans to open on Friday, Dec. 5, for the 2025-26 ski season.
The resort is offering unlimited adult season passes for $850 between now and Oct. 31. Children up to age 12, seniors (64 and older) and military members are offered discounted season passes at $800 through Oct. 31.
Prices increased by $100 on Nov. 1.
Adding an additional family member within the same household is another $600.
Individual lift passes range from $32 to $160.
Sapphire Valley: Sapphire Valley plans to open on Dec. 13 for the 2025-26 ski seaoson.
However, Sapphire Valley’s website lists individual lift tickets from $39.75 to $98.
Sugar Mountain: Sugar Mountain opened for the 2025-26 ski season on Nov. 11. Night skiing opened on Nov. 29.
Sugar Mountain has its prices for season passes listed online.
If buying before 4 p.m. on Oct. 16, a season pass costs $848 for the first family member, $560 for the second and $425 for each additional family member.
If buying between Oct. 17 and 4 p.m. on Nov. 30, a season pass costs $936 for the first family member, $616 for the second and $468 for each additional family member.
If buying after Nov. 30, a season pass costs $1,261 for the first family member, $763 for the second and $631 for each additional family member.
Single-day lift tickets will cost between $44 and $99.
