The Mythmakers: The Remarkable Fellowship of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien is a remarkable tale of a literary friendship that changed the course of publishing, storytelling and myth-making forever.

Told both from the perspective of Tolkien and Lewis and their stand-ins (a lion and a wizard), this graphic novel covers everything from the origins of mythology to Tolkien and Lewis's tenures as soldiers in World War I to the publication of their great works of fiction (The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia, respectively).

When asked about the intended audience for this book, author and illustrator John Hendrix states that it is for the 14-17 year old who is wary of reading Beowulf and the like in school, and who needs to be afforded a fresh, exciting perspective on ancient myths and their ties to modern storytelling.

The Mythmakers has gone into a second printing from publisher ABRAMS Books, and will undoubtedly prove to be a top gift for both teenagers and lovers of Tolkien and Lewis this holiday season.

John Hendrix is a guest on the Bookin' podcast this week, which can be listened to here and on other popular podcast platforms.
